Sewing help please

I ordered a dress from China.... big mistake as the dress looks really naff and cheap.  I think if I line it I could make it look wearable. Can I ask the dressmakers out there whether I should dismantle the whole thing or is there a way to line it without doing that.  The dress is lightweight polyester and the skirt part is quite full but the waistline looks rubbish it is so badly made.

  1. I really wish I could help Cherie but even though I do some dressmaking I have never put a lining in.
    Hope you get it sorted.

  2. If you can pin it out very flat on some paper (lining wallpaper is good) then draw round it and moving one section at a time draw in seam lines and darts etc. That will give you a simple pattern add on a seam allowance and make it up. Put wrong sides together and sew it to neckline and arm holes/sleeves. If it had a zipper slip stitch the lining to the zip edges, make the hemline at least 1" shorter than the dress. A photo of the dress might be a good way of getting more specific suggestions. Good luck.
